Description

If you are looking for an adventure of a lifetime, you and your pup should explore the Pacific Crest Trail which travels from Canada to Mexico! You can be a part of this epic journey either in part or by completing the whole hike!

There are a number of places you can pick up the trail in the states of Washington, Oregon and California. Many hikers choose to start this 2,650-mile trail in Campo, California or pick it up at the other end which is in Manning Park, British Columbia. The PCT Association in Sacramento is where you will find extensive trailhead information.

To complete this entire journey, many prepare for months or years prior. However, the Pacific Crest Trail is broken up into 30 sections, each 91-miles in length. If you live in Washington, there are 5, Oregon features 7 sections, and California has 18. You can pack up your pup to experience any portion of any section for a taste of this magnificent trail.

As you can probably guess, the terrain varies considerably depending on where you are hiking. There are treks through the Sierra and Cascade Mountains, deserts, forests and volcanic areas. The footing can be sand, pavement, rocks or water. Expect snow in the upper elevations and extremely hot, dry conditions on the desert floor.

If you are hiking this trail, for any distance, it is important to carry plenty of water with you for you and your pawtastic pup. Take great care in planning for their comfort including bedding, warm and cold weather gear, and shelter. Food is important to carry for the longer sections, but there are some areas which pass through a town to pick up supplies.

The Pacific Crest Trail is magnificent to experience for any number of miles, so try out a section today and be part of this historic hike with your fur-ever friend by your side.
